Manager of Finance & Operations
The Role
We are seeking a Manager of Finance & Operations to lead our finance, accounting, operations, and HR administration functions, while also playing a client-facing role in billing and financial communication. Working closely with the Director, this role is central to ensuring financial health, project transparency, and operational efficiency as the company grows.
This is an opportunity to shape the financial and operational future of a respected design studio expanding into new ventures. You'll play a strategic role in client relationships, leadership decision-making, and company growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, and monthly financial reporting.
- Build and maintain financial dashboards to track KPIs and project performance.
- Prepare and issue all client invoices; communicate monthly with clients about project status and financial progress.
- Present a monthly financial report to the CEO on company profitability, cashflow, and KPIs.
- Supervise bookkeeping (AP/AR, payroll, reconciliations) and liaise with accountants.
- Oversee contract management for all projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Streamline project tracking, job costing, and vendor management.
- Oversee onboarding, contracts, benefits, and HR compliance.
About You
You are a strategic, detail-oriented leader with strong financial acumen and operational expertise. Confident in client-facing communication, you can clearly present financial updates while building trust. You are organized, systems-minded, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in finance and accounting
- CPA designation an asset but not required.
- Experience in operations leadership in a start-up or small firm environment.
- Proven success in client-facing financial roles (billing, project updates, receivables).
- Experience supporting design, architecture or engineering firms an asset
- Familiarity with HR best practices and compliance.
